[ARCHIVED] Save the date: Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is December 4

The City of Las Cruces' 2019 Christmas Tree, at Plaza de Las Cruces.

The City of Las Cruces will host its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony with live music, giveaways, refreshments and activities for the whole family.


The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 4 at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St. Lighting of the tree is scheduled at 7 p.m. The event is free to the public.


Food trucks will be at the Plaza selling various menus of local favorites.


Live music will be performed by Las Cruces-based band Unlyshed. Following events at Plaza de Las Cruces, the Rio Grande Theatre will show the movie “The Polar Express” at 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission to the movie is $5 per person and doors at the Rio Grande Theatre will open after the tree-lighting.


The Tree Lighting Ceremony is just part of several holiday-themed events in Las Cruces and at New Mexico State University during the weekend of December 3 to December 5. Planned events include: 

  • 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, December 3: Fine Arts Flea Market, at Plaza de Las Cruces.
  • 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 3: First Friday Art Ramble, in the Arts and Cultural District between Main and Mesquite streets.
  • 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 4: Cruces Kids Can bazaar of kid-created products, at the Farmers and Crafts Market in downtown Las Cruces.
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 4: Las Cruces Tree Lighting Ceremony, at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St.
  • 8 p.m. Saturday, December 4: “The Polar Express” movie ($5 admission), at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St.
  • 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 5: Noche de Luminarias, at New Mexico State University’s Corbett Center Student Union.
