Summer Camps at Home
Throughout Summer 2021, students grades 1-12 can register for a FREE virtual Summer Camp experience on topics including history, railroads, pop art, and learning about stories from New Mexico. Each camp includes a take home kit of supplies and access to videos, demonstrations, and online discussions about the camp topic. (Grades 1-2, do not include the online discussions.)

SURREALISM SUMMER CAMP
- Grades 3-5
- June 14-18, 2021, 2-4 pm
- Registration closes June 5
Join the Museum of Art for an at-home learning experience about the Surrealism art movement. Surrealist artwork features odd juxtapositions of images and objects that create a scene which can be described as dream-like, illogical, and even unsettling. Try a new art project each day to explore the story of a different artist with ties to the movement. No previous art experience required.
TRANSPORTATION SUMMER CAMP
- Grades 6-8

Explore the world of trains and transportation with the Las Cruces Railroad Museum. Travel back in time and learn about the early history of the railroads and their role in the settlement of the United States. Hear the stories of people associated with the railroads, practice signaling and Morse code, and use everything you learn to envision what the future holds for railroads.
STORIES OF THE STARS SUMMER CAMP

Explore the ways that diverse cultures understand and interact with the stars! Stars are guides for those out to sea or in the wilderness and mark the circular passage of time. Youth will receive a kit with the materials to do hands-on activities and will participate in Zoom workshops.
MARVELOUS MINIATURES! SUMMER CAMP
- Grades 6-8
- July 19-23, 2021, 8am-12pm
- Registration closes July 10
Explore the art of miniature dioramas at the Museum of Art. Students in 6th-8th grade will create small, interchangeable landscape pieces and create a scene of the student’s choice using everyday household items as components and tools. This type of art is used in tabletop roleplaying games and is also in decorative arrangements and ornaments.
ANIMALS OF THE DESERT SUMMER CAMP
- Grades 1-2
- July 12-16, 2021, 10-11am

Explore the desert through the eyes of the animals that live here and the stories that help us understand them! Animals have always been a way for us to understand our humanity and relationship to the land we walk on. Youth will receive a kit with the materials to do hands-on activities and will participate in zoom workshops.
