COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICE

FOCUS & PURPOSE 

The Community Engagement Office is focused on communication and outreach activities, enhancing collaborative relationships with neighborhoods, and providing support to the City’s engagement processes. 

The primary purpose of community engagement is to empower residents to influence City government decisions that shape their city and their quality of living in the community. Community building, outreach and education activities, and improved communication are important to the City to help constituents understand and be understood.

UPCOMING PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT EVENTS 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic some public meetings will continue to be held virtually, which are listed below with the appropriate connection information. If you have any questions, please contact the Community Engagement Office at 575-541-2192.

In-person meetings, which are listed on the City’s website calendar, will follow the current directives issued by the New Mexico Governor’s Office and New Mexico Department of Health. Please click on this link Calendar to access more information about these meetings.

  • Step 1: Click on the link for the meeting you are planning to attend. This will allow you to register for the Zoom Webinar for that meeting.
  • Step 2: If you don’t already have a Zoom account, you will be prompted to create a free account.
  • Step 3: Fill out your registration form and submit.
  • Step 4: Save the invitation meeting notice as this has the link to attend the meeting. You will need to click on this link to attend the meeting.
  • Step 4.a: You can also save the webinar invitation to your digital calendar.
  • Step 5: On the date and time of the meeting, click on the link to join the meeting. Note: If you click on this link after the end-time of the meeting, you will be unable to join the meeting.

Bellamah Drive Reconstruction Project

This project consists of the reconstruction of Bellamah Drive between Luna St. and Lees Dr. The project is located in District 3, zip code 88001 and corresponds to Councilor Gabriel Vasquez. The project will consists of new: asphalt pavement, sidewalk, curb & gutter, street lighting, curb ramps, drivepads, and street signs. New sewer, water and gas will also be included with this project for utility improvements. The purpose of this project is to improve the Bellamah Drive roadway within City right-of-way and improve its existing utilities.
The goal of this meeting is to inform and gather input from the residents of Bellamah Drive in order to come up with the best roadway design solution for this Project.

Campo Street Reconstruction Follow-Up Meeting

The project area is bounded by East Picacho Avenue/Spruce Avenue and East Amador Avenue and is in City Council District 1. Campo Street is a transition corridor where the Mesquite Historic District meets Downtown. This poses unique and challenging opportunities to blend in the two distinct characters into a single corridor. The purpose of this project is to obtain input from community members most impacted by the project to help develop a feasible corridor design that helps incorporate all modes of transportation while providing a seamless transition from the Mesquite Historic District to Downtown.

Walnut-Madrid Bike, Pedestrian & Utility Improvement Project

The goal of the project is to promote pedestrian and bicycle connectivity that encourages alternate modes of transportation. The pedestrian and bicycle improvements route is 2.25 miles which begins at the northern intersection of Hadley Avenue/Walnut Street, continues north on Walnut Street, crosses the intersection of Spruce Avenue/Kilmer Street, continues north on Kilmer Street, east on Popular Avenue, north on Evelyn Street, west on E. MadridAvenue, and ends near the intersection of Madrid Avenue/Solano Street. Utilities infrastructure to be improved along this route include a new water main along Walnut Street, from Hadley Avenue to Spruce Avenue, and a new water & gas main along E. Madrid Avenue, from Evelyn Street to Solano Street.
