A reminder to everyone that New Mexico State University and the City of Las Cruces will commemorate the 18-year anniversary of 9/11 with a Patriot Day Ceremony on the NMSU campus.

The Patriot Day Ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019 at the east end of Horseshoe Park, next to Hadley Hall at NMSU. The public is invited to attend with free parking available in Lots 1 and 2 near the corner of University Avenue and Espina Street, just north of Skeen Hall. Metered and handicap parking is available along North Horseshoe Street and South Horseshoe Street.

People who attend are encouraged to arrive early and may want to bring a lawn chair to sit on during the ceremony. The event is expected to last 30 to 40 minutes.

Patriot Day commemorates the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, in New York City, at the Pentagon, in Washington, D.C., and a thwarted attempt that ended in a Pennsylvania field.

Also, the City’s garrison flag will be flown at Veterans Memorial Park, on Roadrunner Parkway, to commemorate 9/11. The flag will fly at half-staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. Volunteers to help veterans raise and lower the garrison flag are welcome. They should be at Veterans Memorial Park about 15 minutes before the flag is to be raised or lowered and veterans will advise volunteers how they can help. Complimentary coffee, provided by the High Range Neighborhood Association, will be available to veterans and volunteers who raise the garrison flag in observance of 9/11.

The garrison flag will again be flown on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Veteran Memorial Park to commemorate Constitution/Citizenship Day. Information about Constitution/Citizenship Day can be found here.
