[ARCHIVED] Las Cruces Could Be New Mexico’s Next Boomtown

Las Cruces City Hall

Las Cruces has been identified as one of 50 U.S. cities that has the potential to become a boomtown. The City is listed as New Mexico’s most likely candidate to become a boomtown according to Espresso Communications, a full-service communications agency, based in Montreal, Canada, that specializes in media and influencer outreach, strategy development and content production.

“Las Cruces has numerous advantages going for itself,” said William F. Studer, Interim City Manager. “For years, the City has been cited by several websites, magazines and media outlets as one of the best places to live in the U.S. It’s good to see others continue to see and understand the benefits Las Cruces has to offer.”

An internet story, “The Cities and Towns Set to Boom in Each State,” was published Monday, Sept. 3, 2019.

“Las Cruces, New Mexico, New Mexico’s second-largest city is gaining on Albuquerque thank to plummeting unemployment insurance compensation and positive income and employment indicators,” said Espresso’s assessment of Las Cruces.

“How do you predict a boomtown? It’s said that where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and the economies, job markets, and income levels in the 50 cities and towns on this list are definitely heating up. The question is, which ones are ready to go from hot to red hot? Key 2010 to 2018 statistics from the United States Census Bureau, along with 2016 to 2017 stats from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, tell the tale.”

Other notable cities on Espresso’s list include Scottsdale, Arizona; Santa Clara, California; Denver, Colorado; Honolulu, Hawaii; Boise, Idaho; Lawrence, Kansas; New York; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Odessa, Texas; and St. George, Utah.
