KRWG to air at-home learning broadcasts for New Mexico’s K-5 students

The coronavirus crisis has resulted in the closures of all New Mexico public schools. In response, New Mexico State University’s KRWG Public Media is partnering with New Mexico PBS, Albuquerque Public Schools and KENW to air a broadcast initiative that will support and encourage at-home learning for K-5 students and their families. The broadcast lessons will be on KRWG channel 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning April 6.

The schedule will include kindergarten through first grade from 8 to 9 a.m., English Language Development from 9 to 10 a.m., second and third grade from 10 to 11 a.m. and fourth and fifth grade from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. More information is available at

“Television is the most accessible resource to deliver this content to students in our region,” said Adrian Velarde, general manager of KRWG. “By providing these lessons, we hope to supplement the efforts of the various school districts in the communities we serve with the best educational opportunities for all students.”

These educational broadcasts will cover an array of subjects and give elementary-aged students the opportunity to access valuable learning tools even though they are unable to physically attend class for the remainder of the school year.

“This initiative will have a statewide impact thanks to the collective reach of KENW, KNME and KRWG,” Velarde said. “By joining forces, we reach 98 percent of the state’s population and we are the most accessible resource in this time of crisis. We are all extremely proud to be able to serve New Mexico students and teachers by delivering this critical content.”

The broadcasts will continue every week through the end of the regular school year schedule.
