The NMSU Department of Astronomy presents a special Apollo 11 Anniversary public presentation. The Fellowship of Las Cruces Area Rocketry Enthusiasts (FLARE) will conduct an Apollo 11 launch reenactment. FLARE member Dave Kovar brings us a motorized replica of Saturn V Launch Complex 39, and scale model Saturn V Rocket. The event includes an audio track of President Kennedy's "We Choose to Go to the Moon" speech, and the actual final minute of the Apollo 11 countdown to launch.

Dr. Russet McMillas from Apache Point Observatory will talk about the Apache Point Observatory Lunar Laser Ranging Operation (APOLLO), which has achieved one-millimeter range precision to the Moon which should lead to approximately one-order-of-magnitude improvements in the accuracy of several tests of fundamental properties of gravity.

Victor Murray, Safety Engineer at Johnson Space Center, has worked on every manned space flight since the Apollo Project. With decades of experience, he brings his stories and excitement for the future of human space flight and exploration to Las Cruces. Murray will chronicle his experiences from his days as a young technician during the Apollo, Skylab, and Space shuttle programs, his involvement as a key safety engineer during the deployment of the International Space Station and his current role in helping pave the way to Mars with the Orion Capsule.
