Public Art

The City recognizes that quality of life isn't only represented by good streets, reliable utilities, or the many programs and services provided. Quality of life is enhanced by support of a community's art and cultural resources, and the City of Las Cruces is a proud example of this support.

The City of Las Cruces supports artists in the community. The City Council passed Ordinance 2674 creating the City Art Board in 2013. The City Council passed Resolution 15-126 in 2014 establishing a dedicated funding source for the solicitation of artists, the procurement, installation and maintenance of current and future pieces of public art by setting aside 1 percent of the general fund in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The City Council approved Resolution 16-043 establishing the City Art Board’s Strategic Plan in 2015.

The City Art Board comprises seven volunteer members appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the City Council. The board serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters related to public art. Meet the City Art Board or find meeting agendas here.  All meetings are open to the public.
